Charles Dixon 1872-1934

H.M.S. Bellerophon had a magnificent history as a ship of the line.  Her first fleet action was with Lord Howe at the Glorious First of June, 1794.  She served at the Battle of the Nile and also at the Battle of Trafalgar where she took the French ship Aigle.  From 1806-09 she served with the Channel Fleet and in the Baltic. Following his defeat at Waterloo Napoleon surrendered to Bellerophon's Captain Frederick Lewis Maitland at Rochefort.  H.M.S. Bellerophon conveyed Napoleon to England prior to his exile to St Helena.  She then served as a hulk prior to being broken up in 1836.
