after a design by the artist, sculpted by I. Kuznetsov, the figurines shown seated around two fruit bowls which lift to reveal inkwells, the rug edge serves as penholder, with scratched initials IK in Cyrillic, otherwise apparently unmarked

Catalogue Note

A similar model of this very rare piece is illustrated in an article from the July/August edition of Antikvariant, Predmeti Iskusstva i Kollectionirovaniya, in an article entitled Krasni i beli, Unikalni plasticheskii reportazh Narali Danko.  The History Museum in St Petersburg and the Egaloostrovsky Palace Museum also have versions of the model.  The inkwell belonging to the History Museum is missing the fruit covers.
