CATALOGUE NOTE
First edition, second issue of Burroughs's masterpiece. Presentation copy, inscribed and signed to his son on the front free endpaper, "To Hulbert Burroughs—some boy—from his dad, Edgar Rice Burroughs. Oak Park, Illinois, December 1915." With points: on copyright page the imprint "W. F. Hall Printing Co. / Chicago" printed in Old English type; no acorn on the spine.
This is the first edition in book form of the first Tarzan story. It originally appeared in The All-Story, volume XXIV, number 2, October 1912. The story was an immediate success and was reprinted in other magazines. It was not until two years later, however, that Burroughs was able to persuade McClung to print the work in book form.
This is surely the most desirable copy of one of the most popular stories ever written for boys.
