    point of the brush and grey and brown wash, over traces of black chalk, within black ink framing lines

This is a version of a drawing by Bakhuizen, in the Royal Collection, at Windsor (RL 6276), which in turn relates to a painting by the artist in the National Gallery, London (see C. White and C. Crawley, The Dutch and Flemish Drawings at Windsor Castle, Cambridge 1994, pp. 180-181, cat. no. 289).
