Catalogue Note

This sketch is of the interior of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura, one of the seven pilgrimage churches of Rome.  It shows part of the basilican interior, with granite Ionic columns at the side, and Corinthian columns supporting antique stone fragments and a 6th century arcaded gallery.  Roberts is known to have painted at least two oils of the interior of San Lorenzo
