Catalogue Note

Alcala de Guadaira is an old moorish fortress near Seville which Roberts visited in May 1833. He made several watercolours of the hilltop fortress from a distance, as well as studies of its streetscape and people. An oil painting by Roberts of a more distant view of the town, dated 1833, is in the collection of the Prado Museum, Madrid
