bidding is closed

Description

  • Florentine School, circa 1600
  • view of modigliano
  • inscribed in brown ink: Modigliano
  • pen and brown ink over black chalk, within gold framing line (added later)

Provenance

Sir Bruce Ingram (L.1405a), from whom acquired in 1952

Catalogue Note

This charming view probably came from a sketchbook. Although it has been attributed to Paul Bril, it is closer in style to Florentine artists working in the early 1600s such as Bazzicaluva and Cantagallina. It has many similarities with a sketchbook of views by their teacher, Giulio Parigi, sold London, Christie's, 5 July 1988, lot 56.
