Catalogue Note

In 1802 Chinnery abandoned his family and sailed to Madras. Five years later he moved to Calcutta and from 1808 to 1812 he was in Dacca where he gave drawings lessons to his friend John D'Oyly and others. He then returned to Calcutta before moving to Serampore in 1823. In 1825, to escape his debts and his troublesome wife who had rejoined him, he moved to Macao
