Catalogue Note
As Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck has kindly informed us, this was one of three Saftlevens which Jacob Helmolt acquired at the Pruyssenaar sale in 1804; it remained together with the other drawing with which it was sold at that time until the 1950s, when both sheets left the collection of Sir Bruce Ingram (the pendant, Helmolt number 1353, was sold, New York, Christie's, 11 January 1995, lot 252).
