Catalogue Note
These loose and free drawings of farm animals were drawn by Gainsborough from life in the mid 1750s. John Hayes suggests that the pencilwork and scallops outlining the foliage are related to the artist's pencil study of trees in the British Museum (see John Hayes, The Drawings of Thomas Gainsborough, 1970, no.169)
