Catalogue Note

In June 1821 Ward set off on a trip to the West Country, staying at Mapperton House near Beaminster. He also visited Stourhead where he admired the surrounding landscape. In 1822 he was near Marlborough and there is a fine drawing of Chisledon just to the north of the town which is dated August 17th 1822 (Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester). The present drawing probably dates from the same period.
