Catalogue Note

In its very broad handling and swirling treatment of foliage, this drawing seems to resemble most closely certain early works by Molijn, such as the River Landscape in Berlin (Kupferstichkabinett, see H.-U. Beck, Pieter Molyn, Katalog der Handzeichnungen, Doornspijk 1998, p. 62, cat. no. 61). Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck has kindly confirmed the attribution, and proposed that the drawing should be dated around 1625-30.
