William H. Farrar's first pottery works were located on what is now West Genesee Street in Geddes. He initially specialized in redware, but by 1850 was utilizing Jersey clay to produce the stoneware for which he is better known. In 1857 he sold his manufactory and moved to a new location, where he turned out Rockingham and yellowware items.
