Catalogue Note

Westerham is five miles west of Sevenoaks in Kent. During the summer of 1899 Allingham took lodgings at a house on Crockham Hill which enabled her to sketch the area around Westerham and Edenbridge. By this date she increasingly took her paint box outdoors to sketch in the lanes and fields, cottages and gardens becoming the most prominent subjects in her pictures
