Catalogue Note
David Roberts' first recorded trip to France was in 1824 when he visited Dieppe, Rouen and Le Havre. In 1829 he spent a month in Paris, but he drew a number of views in France between 1824 and 1829 suggesting that he crossed the channel at least once during these years, visiting Abbeville, Caen and Amiens. Frequent trips followed between 1832 and 1863, during which he often made drawings of the buildings and churches he visited along the way
