Catalogue Note
Lewis made his first European tour in 1827. After leaving England he travelled to Bruges and then up the Rhine where he visited a number of towns along the way. He also visited the Black Forest and drew the Falls of the Rhine at Neuhausen before crossing into Switzerland where he spent about six weeks. He then travelled on to Italy and ended his tour in Venice, not returning home until the very end of the year.
