Die Aktbilder sind, abgesehen von den Landschaften die umfassendste Bildgattung im Schaffen von Félix Vallotton. Vallotton selbst mass ihnen hohe Bedeutung zu. Seine Akte entstanden ausschliesslich im Atelier aufgrund von Bleistiftstudien, die er nach dem Modell gezeichnet hatte. Der Hintergrund und die Details wie beispielsweise die gelben Schmetterlinge entsprangen der Phantasie des Malers.

The still-lives with nudes are, beside the landscapes, the most extensive genre in the oeuvre of Félix Vallotton. Vallotton himself thought them very important. His nudes were exclusively painted in his atelier after studies in pencil which he had drawn of models. The background and the details such as the yellow butterflies sprang from his fantasy.
