Catalogue Note

The sitter was the daughter of the Emperor Charles VI, and the sister of the Empress Maria Theresia of Austria, who had married her future brother-in-law Franz Stephan of Lothringen (Lorraine) in 1736. A portrait of her at a young age by Franz Stampart is lot 443 in this sale.
