circular with reeded rim, engraved with the arms of Ernest Augustus Duke of Cumberland K.G., the underside inscribed December 24 1835, stamped Hossauer Berlin and with standard 12 loth only
Catalogue Note
This appears to have been a Christmas present to or from the Duke of Cumberland
Ernest Augustus King of Hanover, Duke of Cumberland and Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg (1771-1851) succeeded his brother King William IV as King of Hanover in 1837. He married his first cousin Frederica Caroline Sophia Alexandrine, Princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1778-1841). His only son George Frederic Alexander Carl Ernest Augustus (1819-1878) succeeded his father as George V King of Hanover. George lost his eyesight in his childhood as the result of an accident. Ernest Augustus and his wife both died at Herrenhausen (Hanover).
