Catalogue Note

When the painting was sold in 1958 (see Provenance below) the attribution to Francesco Guardi had apparently been authenticated by Prof. Antonio Morassi, but the picture does not appear in his subsequent monograph on the artist (neither in the 1973 nor the 1993 editions).
