Catalogue Note

The fact that the paving of the Piazzetta was replaced in 1723 with a geometric design gives a terminus ante quem for the execution of the present painting.

The painting is accompanied by two photocertificates from Professors Giuseppe Fioca and Jacob Kainen, dated respectively January 27, 1957 and November 30, 1971 that state that the painting is by Antonio Canal, also known as Canaletto and dates to the early 1720s.
