Catalogue Note

Drawings by Bourdon for the present subjects exist.  One is in the Albertina, Vienna and the other, depicting Bathsheba Leading Solomon to the Throne, is now lost (see J. Thuillier, Sébastien Bourdon 1616-1671, Catalogue critique et chronologique de l'ouevre complet, Paris 2000, p. 237, cat. nos. 93-94).

It is possible that the present pair of paintings are those listed in Thuillier's catalogue under Esquisses, p. 236 (op. cit.)
