A Louis XVI ormolu-mounted mahogany tric-trac table circa 1780, stamped R. Lacroix, JME, remounted

the rectangular removable top with an ormolu laurel leaf border and paterae at the corners, lined on one side with leather and on the reverse with a baize playing surface, the frieze outlined with ormolu leaf tip borders centering a pierced roundel, the corners with entwined laurel garlands and grape vines; each end fitted with a drawer released by a catch; the interior veneered for backgammon and with a removable gaming board beneath, veneered on both sides in ivory and ebony forming a chessboard; raised on square tapered legs fitted with foliate ormolu collars, rope twist borders, and leaf-cast sabots.

A tric trac table, stamped R. Lacroix, was sold, Sotheby's, London, December 11, 1992.  The frieze is centered on each side by an inlaid rosette which is reminiscent of the pierced ormolu rosettes fitted to the present table, its legs are also outlined with ormolu rope twist borders.  A second tric trac table, also stamped R. Lacroix, is fitted with a chessboard which slides beneath the center section, and which is also inlaid on both sides to form a gaming surface, sold, Christie's, Monaco, June 15, 1997, lot 125.
