Description

  • height 4 3/4 in. 12 cm
enameled translucent red and oyster (white), the Danish Royal colors, over guilloché grounds, the central panel containing the clock with white enamel dial bordered  by seed pearls, the enamel surrounds applied with berried foliage and rosettes, the hinged side panels set with miniatures of the two youngest sons of Prince Waldemar of Denmark, the brother of Empress Maria Feodorovna, signed Zehngraf, the frames bordered by seed pearls, the side panels also with shaped rectangular reserves and swags of foliage, marked with Cyrillic initials of workmaster, Fabergé in Cyrillic and 88 standard.

Catalogue Note

According to tradition, this combination clock and miniature frame was a gift from the Empress Maria Feodorovna to her brother Prince Waldemar of Denmark (1858-1939).
The Empress's nephews, painted by court miniaturist Johannes Zenhgraf (1857-1908 ), are Erik (born November 8,1890) and Viggo (born December 25,1893).
