Description

The Tao of Painting, A Study of the Ritual Disposition of Chinese Painting. New York: Bollingen Foundation, 1963. Green cloth, dustjack, slipcase. Inscribed, Dear Mrs. Jacqueline Kenedy [sic] Prof. Ya-Chum Wang informed me that you are progressing very rapidly in your Chinese art. Congratulations! The original of this book was the silent instructor of thousands Oriental artists. I have learned most of the Chinese art from it and I am sure it would help you too. Marjorie and I present this book to you with Aloha. Sincerely yours, Hon Chew Hee, Dec. 7, 1966.  Also pasted in two color photographs of Mrs. Kennedy taken while she was in Honolulu studying Chinese painting and calligraphy with Mr. Hee and a newspaper clipping reading, ...Mrs. Kennedy also studied art here in Honolulu, during her visit last summer. She took a course of 10 lessons in Chinese painting and calligraphy from our own Hon Chew Hee, in his Kaneohe studio....
