Catalogue Note

Franz Bueb (1919-1982), a German artist and architect, was a friend of Mrs. Kennedy's particularly during the 1950's and 1960's. His architecture and paintings are whimsical and delightful - he designed a "Butterfly House" in Kitzbuhel and a "Spider Web" house in Vienna. Of the four drawings in this sale, three are portraits of Mrs. Kennedy and the fourth is of Chatsworth, in Derbyshire. In addition to Mrs. Kennedy, his work was collected by Duchess of Windsor, Baron Edmund de Rothschild and George P. Widener and is also exhibited in several museums in the United States.
