Giacomo Caneva was one of a small group of friends who gathered in the Caffe Greco on the Via Condotti (near the Spanish Steps) in Rome to discuss their mutual interest, photography, in the period around 1850. The group also included Prince Giron des Anglonnes, Count Frédéric Flachéron and Eugène Constant. For Caneva and his circle, see A. Cartier-Bresson et alii 2004.
