Catalogue Note

Born in wartime Germany, Christa Paffgen, alias Nico, moved to Paris aged 16 to work as a model. In 1959, her film career took off with an appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita. She became lead singer with Velvet Underground in the mid-1960s after a recommendation by Andy Warhol.
