RM:68.987' wetstamp in red ink on the reverse, each inscribed 'Joconde' by the photographer in red ink and numbered ('9528' [illustrated image] and '9782') in pencil on the reverse, each with GM collection number in pencil (089 & 088 respectively) also on the reverse,

Catalogue Note

The act of looking is a recurrent theme in Doisneau's work: one of his most renowned images is 'Un Regard Oblique' (see lot 148), in which the contrasting gazes of the couple looking in the art gallery window provide the humour. In the two studies offered her, the object of the spectators' fascination is 'La Joconde' (The Mona Lisa).
