Catalogue Note

This painting is very close in style to works by Willem de Poorter (1609-after 1648), such as The Toilet of Esther in the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin (inv. no. 380). Similarities in style and execution can also be detected in the works of Willem Bartsius (c.1612-after 1639), who used similar female types in his paintings. Bartsius was also a close follower of Willem de Poorter.
