Catalogue Note

The composition derives, with some minor differences, from Murillo's original, listed by Angulo Iñiguez as in the Kilmorey Collection, London, which was sold London, Sotheby's, 3 December 1924, lot 70. The author erroneusly identified the Kilmorey picture with the present lot which was sold in Berlin in 1900 (see D. Angulo Iñiguez, Murillo, Catalogo Critico, Madrid 1981, p. 237, cat. no. 281).
