Catalogue Note
These paintings appear to be by the same artist, who has been identifed by Salerno as being active in Umbria and to whom he has attributed a group of paintings, for example the Flowers in a Grotteschi Vase, in the Pinacoteca Civica, Bettona, and to which there are very notable similarities in the composition to the former of the present pair (see L. Salerno, La Natura Morta in Italia, vol. II, Milan 1989, p. 743, cat. no. 643 reproduced). This artist seems to have been influenced by the compositions of the Florentine artist Andrea Scacciati (1642-1704).
