"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The canvas is unlined but there are at least 20 consolidated tears and holes to the reverse, and a small recent tear upper left. Most of the consolidated damages have been restored but this restoration is clumsy and excessive. Likewise, there is excessive in-painting to the foreground. Many pin-prick size losses can be detected in the sky, un-restored, as well as further restored losses across the surface. There are some abraded areas where the canvas has been revealed. Other areas are in a good preserved untouched condition where the paint texture is preserved and the colours saturate well. The varnish is discoloured and its removal would improve the tonality. Offered in a modern gilt wood frame, in good condition."
