At the time of the 1997 sale (see Provenance below) Sebastian Schütze confirmed the attribution based on images.  He dates the painting to circa 1626.  He also compares the facial type of the saint with those of Saints Cosmas and Damian (see S. Schütze & T. Willette, Massimo Stanzione, 1992, p. 191, no. A6, fig. 99) and the putti with those in the Adoration of the Shepherds in the Capitolo dei Padri in the Certose di San Martino, Naples (ibid., p. 192, no. A9, p. 275, fig. 105).
