Catalogue Note

The composition is very similar to Hoogstraaten's, First Born in the Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, Massachusetts. (see W. Sumowski, Gemälde der Rembrandt der Rembrandt - Schuler, vol. II, 1983, p. 1294, no. 836).  In works such as these, Hoogstraten reveals the influence of the late work of Pieter de Hooch.
