The attribution to Swanevelt was first made by Professor Ann Sutherland Harris, and confirmed upon first-hand inspection by Dr. Anne Charlotte Steland, who believes the staffage to have been painted by Jan Asselijn. Dr. Steland will include this picture in her forthcoming catalogue raisonné on the works of Herman van Swanevelt.
