Catalogue Note
Some nine versions of this composition are known by Pieter Brueghel the Younger, all on panels of approximately the same size. Four are dated, between 1625 and 1632. The present picture has hitherto been known only through a photograph of "exceptionally good quality" in the De Boer archive, on the basis of which Klaus Ertz considers it to be an autograph replica by Pieter Brueghel the Younger.
