Catalogue Note
This painting was included in a cabinet picture by Hieronymous Janssens in a private collection in Madrid (see Díaz Padrón and Royo-Villanova, under Literature). Since Janssens' cabinet picture is unlikely to date from much after the middle of the century, this is likely to be an early work by Van Noordt, a view taken by Sumowski (see Literature) who, unaware of its inclusion in Janssens' work, dates it to the early 1650s comparing it with Van Noordt's classicizing half-lengths and portraits of this period.
