Catalogue Note
The attribution to Jacob van Loo is derived from an unsigned, nearly identical, Portrait of Johan Ort given to Jacob van Loo, which is at Castle Nijenrode, Breukelen. According to a label on the reverse of the male portrait, this pair used to be attributed to Hieronymus van der Helst.
We are grateful to Professor Dr R.E.O. Ekkart for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs.
