Catalogue Note

This composition probably originates with Pieter Claesz., although there is no surviving original known. Various versions have been identified, such as a still life sold London, Christie's, 19 June 1987, lot 28, and a work sold in these Rooms, 18 May 2004, lot 90 (as by a follower of Pieter Claesz.). Several versions however have been attributed to Roelof Koets in the past.
