bidding is closed
Description
- Nicolaes van Verendael
- a still life of roses, a tulip, honeysuckle and other flowers, with a sculpted stone ornament in the background
- oil on canvas laid down on panel, a fragment
Catalogue Note
Taught by his father Willem van Veerendael, Nicolaes became a member of the Antwerp guild of St. Luke in 1657. His talent was highly regarded, but due to his slow working practise he lived a meagre existence.
This fragment is probably the lower right corner of a larger composition of a cartouche embellished with swags of flowers in the corners.
