Catalogue Note

Joan Hieronymus Hoeufft was the son of Jan and Isabella Deutz and a canon in Utrecht. In 1692 he married Maria de Malapert. Maes painted another portrait of the sitter at a younger age, dated 1677, which is in a private collection (see under Literature, Krempel, p. 321, cat. no. A 190, reproduced fig. 271).
