Description
- David Teniers the Younger
- a village scene with peasants bowling outside an inn, a view of a church beyond
- oil on panel, the reverse stamped with the marks of the city of Antwerp, incised with the panelmaker's mark of Guilliam Aertssen (active c.1612-after 1627) and with the annual letter: A
Catalogue Note
Dr. Jørgen Wadum has kindly confirmed that the letter A, incised on the reverse of the panel, is a so-called annual letter, found mostly on silver and pewter, and so far only found in the guild year 1621-22. This points out to a fabrication date of the panel in this period, however, the artist may have used it several years later. See for a note on Guilliam Aertssen, lot 25.
