Catalogue Note

Doncker entered the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke in 1653. Apart from his portraits, for which he is mostly known, Doncker also painted elegant companies in the style of Anthonie Palamedesz. (1601-1673) and Pieter Codde (1599-1678), such as the present picture.

The present lot was correctly re-attributed to Doncker by Fred G. Meijer and Rudi Ekkart.
