Catalogue Note

Van Overschie was admitted to the Antwerp guild in 1640 as the son of a master, probably the art-dealer Blasius van Oversee, a member since 1622. Not very many works are known by this master, who seems to have been influenced by his fellow-townsmen and painters Alexander Adriaenssen, Jan Davidsz. de Heem, Joannes Fijt and Adriaen van Utrecht.

A similar signed composition was recorded in a New York private collection (see W. Bernt, Die Niederländischen Maler und Zeichner des 17. Jahrhunderts, Munich 1962, vol. II, no. 221).
