Catalogue Note
Roger de Beauvoir (1806-66) was a romantic writer who socialised within Manet's close circle, he was said to be ' a dandy, of independent means... but he died gout-ridden and poor'. This dedication to Roger de Beauvoir from Manet is evidence of a close friendship.
