Attributed to Pietro Buonaccorsi, called Perino del Vaga Florence 1501 - 1547 Rome

This drawing comes from an album apparently put together and numbered in the 17th century; many sheets were removed before it was broken up and sold at Christie's in 1980.  It contained works by a variety of artists, but most importantly a large group by Cavaliere d'Arpino.  The present drawing bears an illegible annotation that also appears on one other drawing in that sale, lot 89, which was attributed to Andrea di Leone.  It is possibly a collector's name and may indicate a Neapolitan provenance.  An attribution to Anselmi was proposed by Sir Timothy Clifford.
