Catalogue Note

This drawing can be compared with two paintings by Brusaferro of the same subject.  One, in the Arcivescovado di Vicenza, has a composition very similar to the central group of figures in our drawing, although it is orientated vertically and therefore eliminates the group of Apostles to the right of Christ, and also three of the figures to the far left.  In the second painting, sold in Milan in 2000, the artist does adopt a horizontal format, but the composition is reversed and the figures are somewhat different from those of our drawing.  For further information, see A. Pietropolli, Gerolamo Brusaferro: dipinti e disegni, Padua 2002, cat. nos. 38 and 109, figs. 52 and 128.
