Catalogue Note
The distinctive figure types and the soft handling, particularly in the foliage, make the traditional attribution to Herman Saftleven unsustainable. In fact, this drawing is stylistically closely comparable with a signed landscape by De Vlieger, sold, Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 2 November 2004, lot 75.
