Catalogue Note

This fascinating view is one of five known preparatory studies for Vanvitelli's view of Isola Bella, on Lake Maggiore. The artist painted seven versions of this view, which is taken from the south, on the bank of the Borromean gulf, near Stresa. For further information, see G.
